The Reach is a developing, urban community on the endowment lands of Thompson Rivers University (TRU). This multi-phased, generational project is spread over 250 acres of serviced, prime, view property located just outside of downtown Kamloops and is surrounded by well-established residential neighbourhoods, an 800 hectare municipal park, and a large commercial district.
For almost 50 years, the TRU campus has grown and evolved into the world-class place of learning and living that it is today. Set high on a plateau, the university’s campus has room to reach beyond its core purpose – to support the development of a new urban destination where living seamlessly connects with learning.
The Reach has been thoughtfully integrated with the nearby neighbourhoods, offering diverse housing choices with something for everyone. It has both built and natural amenities that are perfect for work, rest and play combining pedestrian and cycle-friendly pathways, urban night-life and wide-open green spaces.
Benefitting Campus & Community for Generations to Come
Many academic institutions throughout North America have linked their universities with the local communities through the development of endowment lands. Institutions such as UBC, SFU, and Harvard have set the bar for this type of project with great success and immense benefit to the local communities and to the students, faculty and staff of the universities themselves.
Approximately 90 acres of land will be made available to developers who will have opportunities to bid on individually subdivided parcels. A recently approved comprehensive development zone clearly defines permitted uses and densities for the entire TRU campus.
